Ahead of the school year, director of transportation Sheryl Alden sent a letter warning of the heat.“With it being 100 + degrees outside our AC systems will cool to 80 degrees and then when adding 60 students on the bus that temperature will increase to 90,” it read. “We are strongly urging students to bring with them a personal water bottle that they can use to stay hydrated on the bus ride.
“We want to assure you that we are treating this matter with the utmost urgency,” FWISD officials said in a statement. “We want to emphasize that the well-being of our students and staff is our primary concern.” The DMN Education Lab deepens the coverage and conversation about urgent education issues critical to the future of North Texas.
