Southern University of Science and Technology is a public research university funded by Shenzhen city.

The School of Medicine currently has over 280 employees. In the past two years, the School of Medicine has built a strong faculty team with thirty-six core tenured and tenure-track members, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and five chair professors. There are currently forty postdoctoral fellows, with expected rapid growth in the near future.
