The Roman coin was discovered in an area of Germany that was not part of the empire, making the find highly unusual.

An 8-year-old boy has made a remarkable discovery in Germany: a rare Roman coin dating from the time of the emperor Marcus Aurelius.

Bjarne made his discovery in the summer of 2022 but it was only announced last week, with the details revealed at a press conference on Friday afternoon. The newly discovered coin was forged during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, who ruled over the Roman Empire from A.D. 161 to A.D. 180. The area of Germany where the coin was discovered was not part of the empire, which is why the find is so unusual. Exactly how it made its way to Bremen is still unknown.
