An autopsy will be performed today to try to determine the cause of death for Jefferson County high school basketball standout Caleb White, 17, who died Thursday after suffering a medical emergency at school.

Principal Michael Turner announced the student’s death in a note sent to parents which was later shared with the media.“Caleb was an honor student, very respectful, high intellect, excellent role model, phenomenal basketball player, ranked 25th best point guard in his class in the nation and No. 2 in the state of Alabama,” his grandfather, George Varnadoe Jr., posted on Facebook.
