BreakingNews: Hundreds of nurses walk off the job, strike in NewBrunswick. NewJersey

The hospital administration has said it’s ready to fill those shifts with replacement workers and can do so for the next 60 days. Union leaders say staffing is the biggest issue and it must be addressed.

Nancy Lipschutz, an adult critical care nurse who also went on strike in 2006, said nurses will strike as long as they need to. “We are going to fight this fight. We want to protect our patients,” she said. "We twice accepted the Union's demands. We offered to go to arbitration or submit to a board of inquiry, and the Union rejected both,” the statement said.

Pres. Judy Danella says staffing guidelines are the main concern. “We need to put the salaries aside and we need to focus back on the patient care, the insurance and the stuff that brought us out here,” Danella said.
