A Glasgow nurse has been suspended for a string of errors that included administering medication to a patient that hadn't been prescribed it.

A report by the Nursing and Midwifery Council outlined that the adult nurse was found to have administered medication used to prevent blood clots to a patient who hadn't been prescribed it.While under observation, the nurse with over 15 years of experience failed to carry out basic safety checks, needed help looking up medication, and spoke over a patient when they were responding to her question.

In another patient who was unwell or struggling to breathe, she failed to identify the correct course of action and walked out of the room while a patient was talking to her. Also on the list of failings, she was found to have not replaced the oxygen mask of a terminally ill patient 'in a prompt manner' and failed to notice that she hadn't successfully injected insulin into another patient.

"You were a band 5 registered nurse with 15 years of nursing experience within the UK which the panel considered to be highly relevant to its deliberations."The panel had found multiple patients in your nursing care to have been exposed to an unwarranted risk of harm, some more so than others. It had also found you to have breached fundamental tenets of the nursing profession and to have brought its reputation into disrepute by virtue of your acts and omissions.
