SAN JOSE — A student was found unresponsive Monday in a swimming pool during a summer camp program at the Harker School in West San Jose, according to school officials.
In a statement provided to the Bay Area News Group on Wednesday morning, Head of School Brian Yager said that the student was participating in a swimming session, with lifeguards present, when they were found unresponsive. The lifeguards and a nurse performed CPR on the student until paramedics arrived.
The student remained at the hospital in an unknown condition as of Wednesday morning. Authorities did not specifiy the person’s age, gender or city of residence. “As educators and parents, we share a deep love for our children,” Yager said. “The incident is just heartbreaking. The health and safety of our campers and students are always paramount. The school will be reviewing all processes and protocols involving our summer camp swimming program and fully investigating what happened.”
