School of girls killed in Monaghan crash say they are deeply shocked by tragedy

The school of two girls who killed in a car crash on their way to a Debs in Monaghan are "deeply shocked" by the tragedy.

A further three people were hospitalised following the crash including the 60-year-old man who was driving the car and an 18-year-old woman who are in critical condition.Largy College, where the girls attended school, have now issued a statement following the tragic incident. "It is with profound sadness and grief that we have learned about the devastating accident that resulted in the untimely and tragic loss of two cherished members of our school community," the school's principal Sharon Magennis said.

A statement released by An Garda Siochana said they remained at the scene late last night following an accident that happened at 6.45pm on the N54 in Legnakelly, Co. Monaghan."Their bodies have been removed from the scene to Monaghan General Hospital. Post-mortem examinations will take place on Tuesday, August 1."The road will remain closed and local diversions are in place.
