CIF-SS and City teams are getting ready for their 2023 season openers in a few weeks. Here is a look at what is new, what has changed and what’s next for the Daily News area.

After a summer of offseason workouts, weightlifting, 7-on-7 passing events and more, the high school football season is finally underway. On the final day of July, the first week of practices began in the CIF Southern Section, and Los Angeles City Section teams got started a week before that on July 24.

“I feel like Notre Dame doesn’t really have any type of limitations on what we’re able to achieve here,” Yabu said. “I would say I’m an optimistic dreamer by nature and our vision is to compete to be the best team in California.” Brad Vonnahme took over at Crespi and inherits a team that went 0-10 last season and finished at the bottom of the Angelus League standings. Vonnahme brings college coaching experience with him, most recently serving in a defensive quality control position at Fresno State.

Gallegos, a safety, is a USC commit and Gilmer, a wideout, has offers from Michigan State, Oklahoma, Washington and UCLA. Both players transferred from Chaminade.
