Nigerian president, Bola Tinubu, has ordered federal universities to halt their “arbitrary increase in sundry fees payable” amid the hardship experienced by Nigerians due to fuel subsidy removal. Dele Alake, special adviser to the president on communication and strategy, confirmed the president’s directive in a statement on Monday. He said the development was in furtherance of the President’s desire to ease the burden of the fuel subsidy removal on students of higher institutions of learning,

BREAKING: President Tinubu Orders Nigerian Federal Universities To Stop Arbitrary School Fees’ IncrementUNIJOS increment is coming a week after the University of Lagos announced increment prompting parents and Nigerians in general to kick against the astronomical increase of school fees by universities in the country.

SaharaReporters on Saturday reported that the University of Jos became the latest institution to hike fees when it announced the increase of school fees from the current N45,000 to N213,000 an increment of over 300 percent. “The provision of the buses will also remove the burden of additional cost of daily commuting on parents and guardians.

“Similarly, President Tinubu has directed the authorities in all Federal Institutions of higher learning to avoid arbitrary increase in sundry fees payable and where possible defer further increase so that parents and students don’t face too many difficulties.”
