KUALA NERUS: The Higher Education Ministry will not monitor students’ involvement in political activities throughout the duration of the state polls in six states as well as the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said his ministry gave students the freedom to engage in politics but reminded them to understand certain limitations.

"Out there, it is up to them whether they want to contest or campaign. After all, the Universities and University Colleges Act has been amended many times," he told reporters after visiting Universiti Malaysia Terengganu here on Sunday .
