A Nottinghamshire village was ranked as one of the best places in England for educational attainment, according to new data. Analysis by the Office for National Statistics shows that the village of Ravenshead, in the borough of Gedling, is the fifth best "small town", with its score placing it well above the national average.
A score of zero is the average score of all areas, with negative scores reflecting poorer than average performance and positive scores meaning better than average attainment. In the "small town" category, Ravenshead scored an impressive 9.5. "All the schools have a strong work ethic." The ONS study found that the level of income deprivation and the education of the previous generation in a town also related to how well students in the cohort did in school.
"Generally speaking there's not a lot of trouble in Ravenshead, it's quite a nice place to live. I'm also a trustee at Ravenshead Village Hall and we try to be very inclusive as a village. A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire County Council, said: "Ensuring all children and young people achieve their academic potential, secure employment, and gain a sense of future emotional and financial security is one of our key priorities in Nottinghamshire.
