Lancashire weather forecast this weekend with Met Office warning more rain and thunderstorms on the way

Lancashire is set to be hit by more heavy rain and possible thunderstorms this weekend as the poor start to the school summer holidays looks set to continue.

The latest Met Office forecast makes for grim reading for those looking forward to getting away for a well-earned break or enjoy events including Kendal Calling. Last weekend was a washout with heavy rain causing multiple road closures as well as flood warnings and alerts. The poor conditions are set to return with more heavy downpours forecast over the coming days. Friday will remain largely rain-free with lots of cloud and the occasional breakthrough of sunshine with highs of 20C.Saturday will turn wetter with a mixture of showers and sunny spells and temperatures peaking at 19C. Sunday looks set to be the worst of the weather with heavy showers forecast in the morning and early afternoon.

Heavy rain will then fall through the night and into Monday morning making it a very wet start to the week for many. Temperatures over both of these days will be around 18C. The Met Office outlook for the weekend says there will be "sunny spells and occasional showers" and that these could be "often heavy with the possibility of a few thunderstorms". No weather warnings for the region have so far been issued.A rather gloomy and damp start with drizzle in places and murky over higher ground. Turning drier and somewhat brighter but with a chance of showers developing, these possibly heavy. Feeling humid. Maximum temperature 21 °C.
