In an alert sent to students and staff, Catholic University officials said a recent graduate was also assaulted the afternoon of July 13. The alert said the victim was attacked by a group of people while walking from a Metro station to an off-campus residence, and suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The university said in the alert that a meeting with police was needed “to address the serious concerns we have about the crime that has occurred just footsteps away from our campus.
A D.C. police spokesman said the department had received the request and was working to set up a meeting. Emily Dee, a 20-year-old sophomore at the university, said she is worried. Monday’s killing is less than 500 feet from where Emerson was shot July 5. “I’ve never felt a sense of danger in my life, whether on campus or at my workplace,” Dee said Tuesday. “I never paid much attention to it when I lived on campus, but now that I’m living off-campus and crossing that street, I’ve realized the severity of the situation. The two most recent incidents occurred on the sidewalks I use to get to work.”
