Parents have received letters from Telford & Wrekin Council informing them that they will no longer receive assisted travel funding for their child to attend a designated religious school, a councillor has said.

Councillor Stephen Burrell said that some parents are only just discovering that Telford & Wrekin Council is withdrawing their funding for denominational home to school transfer, which was approved in March as part of this year’s budget.

Councillor Burrell asked the cabinet member for education, Councillor Eileen Callear, why it has taken between four and eight months to let residents know about the impact of the budget decisions. Councillor Callear said that she was unable to comment on individual cases without having the full details from the council’s officers but said she would ‘look into that’ and get Councillor Burrell a response.
