Chel’mar Townsend, who was preparing to start high school in the fall, was shot July 10 in Millville.

Family and friends of a 14-year-old Cumberland County resident killed in a shooting have launched a fundraiser and will hold a candlelight vigil next week.and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to investigators. No arrests have been announced in the case.

The assailant pulled a gun on his son and shot him as Chel’mar was trying to escape, the grieving father told N.J. Advance Media last week.The teen was preparing to start high school in the fall and was looking forward to joining the Millville high’s football team, the father said.
