State forces on Sunday denied arresting the two University of the Philippines (UP) alumni who were reported to have been missing since April.

Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesperson Colonel Medel Aguilar said the missing indigenous peoples’ rights activists Gene Roz Jamil “Bazoo” de Jesus and Dexter Capuyan are not in military custody.

The CA ordered the respondent officials of the PNP to produce the activists “if found in their custody” before the appellate court on July 14, Friday and to show cause why they should remain in their custody. Asked if they will appear before the court to deny the arrest of Capuyan and De Jesus, Aguilar said: “Yes. Wala naman tayong ibang pwedeng magawa kasi sa ngayon, and that’s why we have to exert effort later on to look for him.”
