Ro Khanna encourages Biden to find Supreme Court student loan workaround

The high court ruled 6-3 on Friday in opposition to the president's plan, which would wipe away an estimated $400 billion in student debt by canceling $10,000 of federal student loans for borrowers making under $125,000 annually and $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients. Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers sued the administration on behalf of his state over the program, with the backing of Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, and South Carolina.

"I do hope that the White House will make sure that the interest doesn't accrue starting in September," he continued."I know the president has said he isn't going to refer students to the credit agency. I also believe under the Higher Education Act, he can stop the interest accrual." Sen. Bernie Sanders , who chairs the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, said in a statement Friday that he was urging the Biden administration"to implement a Plan B immediately to cancel student debt for tens of millions of Americans who are struggling to pay the rent, put food on the table, and pay for the basic necessities of life."
