The issue isn\u0027t kids changing their name at school — it\u0027s whether they fear retribution at home.

So it’s entirely understandable parents would double-take at a written policy that vouched safe such secret-keeping. The vast majority of teachers and principals and school administrators, like the vast majority of parents, are caring, morally upstanding people who can be relied on to do the right thing in a tricky ethical situation. But by no means all of them are.

Indeed, broadly speaking, New Brunswick’s policy as written strikes me as very reasonable.
