JOHANNESBURG - The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union says the move by President Cyril Ramaphosa to increase the salaries of public office bearers is tone deaf considering high levels of unemployment, poverty and inequality in the country.The Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers made recommendations, and these were submitted to the President in April this year.

All public office bearers will receive the raise, including those in independent constitutional institutions, judges, magistrates and traditional leaders.
