'It’s been really great to see North Battleford taking pride in Pride. When I was growing up, there was nothing like this,' said one artist.

“So it’s really exciting to have that education coming in. I’m particularly excited about the two-spirit teachings, lots of which are not known even in Indigenous communities. Now, we have to bring those back to our communities so that we have our place, like we had back in the day.”

“As a child, it would have been marvelous to see,” he said. “I grew up moving every six months to different communities that quietly hated LGBT people. And it was something that always hurt me, so I hid myself. …Article content Artist Azby Whitecalf, whose paintings were featured in the gallery exhibit, said the event sent an “amazing” message to young queer people in the Battlefords area.

North Battleford Mayor David Gillan, Battleford Deputy Mayor Alexis Christensen and NDP MLA Nathaniel Teed were also in attendance, as were representatives from many of the local schools and school divisions.
