According to prosecutors, Peterson arrived at the school building where the shooting occurred less than three minutes after the first shots were fired, but remained in a stairwell for the remainder of the shooting, and then for another 40 minutes after it ended.Peterson, who worked as the school’s armed resource officer at the time of the shooting, “chose to run” when he reached the school, and that every student who had been killed was still alive by the time he showed up.
Peterson’s defense argued he did not know at the time how many active shooters were at the school or where the shots were fired, and instead initiated a “code red.”
