Pickup theft leads to high-speed pursuit across Pacific Beach, Clairemont, University City [Breaking]

A vehicle theft in Pacific Beach Saturday night led to a police pursuit that exceeded 100 mph and took officers through Clairemont and University City before the suspected thief was arrested.

San Diego police said Sunday morning that the man was still in a hospital where he was being treated for a bite from a police dog. The man was bit after he allegedly ditched the stolen truck and fled into a creek bed in Rose Canyon Open Space Park about 1 a.m.The pursuit, which began just after 11 p.m., began on Olney Street in Pacific Beach, then continued on Balboa Avenue, Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and Genesee Avenue, Officer Mike McGruder said. The suspect allegedly stole a blue 2021 Dodge Ram TRX.

The pursuit ended near Tony Drive on the south side of Rose Canyon, just west of Genesee and University City High School, McGruder said.
