Amy Yang performs at the Immanuel & Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival at Dudley Recital Hall on June 20.

“Hearing all these unforgettable performances to this day remains very vivid,” Yang says. “The programming — what the were, how they sounded; and just being a part of that community, which was home for me.”

As an experienced educator herself now, Yang is well aware of the kind of butterfly effect the festival — one of seven such events on her summer calendar this year — might have on another"young Amy" who might be looking on, much the same way she was years ago. The opportunity to pass on what she’s learned to the dozens of musicians under age 30 gathered for the festival is an “extraordinary honor,” she affirms.

“He was responding also to American jazz; there’s a lot of, certainly, Gershwin and other jazzy elements in that movement,” Yang says. “Another movement, it’s a lullaby.”
