College in America is expensive. Students graduate with an average of $37,172 in student loan debt, the country as a whole has more than $1.5 trillion of it and Americans are becoming less convinced that a four-year degree is worth the cost.

They want to keep poor people dumb and down. With this country its like......whatever.

Pinterest perfect dorms?

I’ll have you know I have the record at WVU for longest keg stand.

It got so expensive because of all the money that was allowed to be borrowed. Way too much higher education bureaucracy.

Because it was wrong from the beginning, so we have to do the last wrong to make it right.

So what did all these students get into debt FOR? What are their degrees? And no one made them take loans. I had almost $70,000 when I graduated. It took 10 years and intense budgets to pay off early, but it was worth every penny. Most make irresponsible choices.

Liberalism!

The Obama admin socialized student loans, allowing colleges to jack up the price of college knowing that payment was guaranteed by the US government, who did little to no due diligence because they had a financial requirement to fund Obamacare.

Debt is as American as buying Apple pie with Visa.

I really think the ISA (Income Sharing Agreement) is the key to reforming the overly costly education system. It makes both parties, student AND college, responsible. That, and, a lot of administrators making a LOT less money!

Only one reason. The government guarrantee of student loans. It set off the endless tuition hikes because there literally nothing to stop schools from jacking the price through the roof.

Maybe we need to rethink why four years of keg stands and Pinterest-perfect dorms are a necessary precursor to every cubicle-farm career, 95% of which involve learning 95% of what is needed on the job anyway?

They live in luxury condos for 1, my dorm was jail cell without bars

What subprimes are to housing state colleges are to the education system. My experience in college was 2/3rds of the kids there didn't belong, and probably 1/10th were actually retarded. Not like haha r-word, but bring in the droll rag and the lobotomy we've got to get to work.

perfect slavery system - capitalism

In addition to the debt, we are creating a generation of alcoholics

Not a mention of the federal government guaranteeing student loan debt.

next 2 yrs, economy turns bear, millennials start defaulting if jobs evaporate. In 5 yrs small private college endowments drop & colleges forced to merge or go bankrupt. In 10 yrs college classes online is standard & costs reset as model for higher ed alters entirely.

AMERICA COMMONWEALTH 1.INNY SYSTEM 5 LAT YAKO AKADEMAYA(NOT MORE COLLEGE) TOGHETER KNOWLEDGE 2 YEARS AND PRACTICE 3=5 YEARS IMPORTANT WILL BE PRATICE $ PROFIT FOR AKADEMAYAS LESS COSTS FOR STUDENTS WHY PRATICE WILL BE PAID TO STUDENTS$..OR REDUCE COSTS TO 20.000$TOTAL PRACTICE

FYI, Biden voted to change the law to make it impossible to discharge student loans in bankruptcy. Student loans remain with you until you die. Thanks, Joe.

What is 'moral hazard' for a thousand, Alex? BAPCPA

UNIONS!

as a recent student I can say that a lot of students are living waaay beyond their means.. doesnt help at all

It's not just the amount, its that it's secured debt so there is no getting rid of it...EVER, unless it's paid off.

BA in 99 MA in 06. I have watched the market in my profession change There was a huge push to get more education but without the commensurate pay increase to cover those costs. At some point the employ stopped being able to absorb the expense and voila! Student loan debt crisis!

No. It is not worth it.

Debt doesn’t have to be part of this! Go to a college you can afford! Many community colleges are free! SaturdayThoughts

No. It is not worth it.

Overpriced text books, and people like Elizabeth Warren getting $400k+ to teach one course is a big part of the problem

Pretty good look at college...but, the main driver of tuition increases was the Fed govt RAISING borrowing limits starting in late 80s. This allowed states to reduce their support for colleges. The unintended consequence was runaway tuition.

I never got to enjoy that stereotype college experience. or the intern into a career at cnbc blueprint.

COLLEGE EDUCATION SHOULD BE FREE. HOW CAN THE REST OF THE WORLD

A degree is only an investment if the Market values it. You can’t expect to get paid for a degree in underwater basket weaving. Follow the money, not your passion.

What about the Parent Loans? If you’re going to look at the whole picture, be sure you’re looking at the whole picture. Education loans are divestating families, not just the kids.

Sounds like a blast!
