The lobster, which is bright orange and has only one claw, will be going to the school to be studied.
One of the top things they are going to be looking at has to do with the environment, and whether or not it has an impact on the lobster's color."One of the things we're going to be able to see here is that is her color due to genetics or is it due to the environment. As she grows it back, is it going to be the gorgeous orange or is it going to be a different color," said Charles Tilburg, the academic director at the School of Marine and Environmental Programs.
Tilburg says he is looking forward to studying the lobster and he hopes to get more people interested in them. The chances of finding an orange lobster are said to be 1 in 30 million, which is much harder than finding a blue lobster, which is 1 in 2 million. The orange lobster was reportedly caught by Capt. Gregg Turner and his crew. Turner donated the lobster to the Arthur P. Girard Marine Science Center at UNE.
