Seven people have been shot, two fatally, following a high school graduation ceremony nearVCU said in an online alert in the evening that officers were on the scene in the area of Monroe Park, near the campus and a large theater. Two people are currently in police custody, said Rick Edwards, the interim Richmond police chief, at a news conference.

The victim was airlifted to a local hospital, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.

The theater is the site for high school graduation ceremonies for Richmond Public Schools. Richmond Public Schools said on its website that a different graduation scheduled for later Tuesday had been canceled “out of an abundance of caution”.
