Roy receiving a life-saving recognition award from the Everett Fire Department.Everett — A young boy named Roy was recognized for his heroic efforts, after calling 911 while his grandmother was having a medical emergency.

Roy was presented with a life-saving recognition award at his school by Everett firefighter Bronson Pearce. This comes in the middle of what’s recognized nationally as EMS Week. The 49th annual EMS week spans between May 21-27 this year. It was first celebrated in 1974 as a means to “thank paramedics, EMTS and the entire EMS workforce for their service and sacrifices.”

“It’s also an opportunity for EMS to continue to raise public awareness about the critical role of EMS in the community,” theIn Roy’s case, the hope is to draw awareness to his quick thinking in a moment when his grandmother needed crucial medical help.
