36 schools in KL, Selangor affected by May 19 storm, says Education Ministry

PETALING JAYA: A total of 36 schools in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor were affected during the storm that hit the federal capital on Friday (May 19).

The Education Ministry, in a statement Sunday , said there were 27 affected schools in Kuala Lumpur and nine in Selangor.

"The Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Education Department , Selangor Education Department and district education offices will conduct further evaluation on the damages at the affected schools with help from the Public Works Department ," the statement added. The ministry also said JKR will then submit the evaluation report with the estimated cost and the allocation for the maintenance work will be made to JPWKL and JPNS immediately.

JPWKL,JPNS and district education offices will conduct the repair and cleaning work with immediate effect to enable learning and teaching sessions to continue without any interference. The storm on Friday evening had torn the roofs of several schools and falling trees also damaged some of the buildings.The schools were SMK Desa Perdana, SK Yaacob Latif, SK Salak South, SK Danau Perdana, SJKC Jalan Imbi, SK Cochrane, SMK Methodist, SK Setapak, SK Kampung Bharu, SMK Puteri Wilayah , SMK Seri Titiwangsa, SK Kementah, SMK Taman Melati, SMK Jinjang and SK Seri Nilam.
