Bessenaar emphasised that CSE is crucial to fostering gender equality, too. She reiterated that many adolescents and youth are at risk of unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections , and gender-based violence, including hate crimes and marginalisation of those who identify as LGBTQ+.
