Contest is open to Grade 5 and 6 students

City Hall is currently accepting applications from local students interested in acting as the Sault's mayor for a day.

The deadline for submissions for this year's "Mayor for a Day" contest is June 2. The winner will be announced June 6. Students are urged to get creative with their applications – write a letter, make a video, etc. – and answer the following questions: • If you were the Mayor, what would you do?The chosen winner will open the City Council meeting on June 19, win a pizza party for their class, take a tour of the Civic Centre and, of course, meet with the mayor.

Application forms are available online and must be emailed to mayorsoffice@cityssm.on.ca or mailed/delivered in person to the Civic Centre front reception at 99 Foster Dr. “The Mayor for a Day contest is a great way to engage local youth in municipal government,” says Mayor Matthew Shoemaker, in a news release issued today. “One of the members of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council was previously recognized in the Mayor for a Day contest – you never know where participation in an initiative like this might lead. I’m looking forward to reviewing the submissions and meeting the winner.
