The investigation into NJCU was requested by Gov. Phil Murphy, based on The Jersey Journal’s reporting of the Jersey City school’s financial problems dating back to the 2013.

The report came out as the school is lobbying state lawmakers for state aid to cover a shortfall in the current budget after it trimmed the deficit in half with a series of cost-cutting measures.
