New records unearthed by the conservative watchdog Americans for Public Trust and reviewed by the Washington Examiner reveal the identities of many donors to the University of Pennsylvania — home to the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement. Some of the donors found on the list also have ties to Hunter Biden's past deals and the Chinese government.
Ron Ozio, a spokesman for the University of Pennsylvania, said in a statement to the Washington Examiner:"No foreign funds were contributed anonymously, and no foreign funds were directed to the Penn Biden Center." BHR was co-founded in 2013 by Hunter Biden's Rosemont Seneca Partners investment firm, along with two Chinese asset managers and the Boston-based Thornton Group LLC. Hunter Biden owned a 10% stake in BHR, after leaving its board, through his company Skaneateles LLC, documents show. A lawyer for Hunter Biden claimed to the New York Times in 2021 that he “no longer holds any interest, directly or indirectly, in either BHR or Skaneateles.
From 2018 to 2019, China Merchants Bank gave more than $5.5 million to the University of Pennsylvania, according to records. The bank's CEO Ma Weihua was a member of the China Entrepreneurial Club, an influential group of foreign business leaders linked to the CCP, at the same time in 2011 that the club met with then-Vice President Joe Biden, according to multiple reports.
