Another article posted by dying MSM to spread hate for public schools.

Your choice, whingers.

Oh diddums. A $30K paycut would send the rest of us into poverty and bankruptcy. People with money to burn whingeing about burning their money on luxurious private education get zero sympathy.

Taxpayers pay the rest. Silvertail leaners.

'Anyhow, stiff shit ... '

The sad demise of the once great SMH is illustrated very well in this piece of rubbish. The rising cost of indoctrinating middle-class children in medieval religious nonsense and suburban snobbery is not news.

Remind me again, how many people in Australia can afford a $30k paycut and still put food on the table, run a house, and lay their bills? Yeah. I thought so. The minority.

Another roboarticle in a ‘Nine/Fairfax’ paper. Standards plummeting!

Obviously something they could afford.

Oh poor you. You chose the school so suck it up.

Personal choice and their decision.

I could barely read this article through my tears. Those poor people! FFS...

Is this all an 'Education Writer' has to feature?

Question - did these parents have any clue how you'd position them in the article as click bait and ripe for abuse? Y'know, before you published? Regardless of their financial position I doubt they were like, hey it's Wednesday let's see if we can get everyone to hate us.

Tossers! I wished that I had been able to afford a $30K paycut!

Yeah I did that. Fucking waste of money unless he’s capable of straight A’s and increase them on the private school league table

Poor darlings! Their lifestyle choice.

It is not the equivalent to a pay cut. You made the decision for private schools. Now stop whining. Pay cuts like no penalty rates aren’t an option.

What a delusional world these people have bought into.

Outcomes no different, actually public better if kid goes to Uni. Teachers trained in same places, curriculum the same, just the window dressing is better. So don't whine about where you choose to waste your money. Parents attitude is the biggest determinant of success!

No mention of the ex wife and contributions she makes. I don't think pays full $30K.

A real shame since private school students don't outperform public school students. 8 of the top 10 schools in the last HSC were selective public schools

The lack of self awareness and utter BS is quite remarkable. They were unhappy with the local school in yr5 so pulled son but plan same for Indi. So was it the school or their desire to save cash in primary then chase status like so, so many other parents? You’re not special!

Agree with all these. Poor little rich kid.

SMH, are you taking the piss?

Tomorrow’s SMH headline. “I bought an Audi and it was like a $100,000 pay cut”.

Bloody entitled whingers.

Yawn. This isn’t newsworthy. It’s their choice. Who cares?

Boo hoo. Let us know where the GoFundMe is so we can send them some tissues.

You would have been better off putting Fauntleroy's schools fees into an account for him for adulthood.

Absolute waste of money!

No more safe school program!!!

Wtf.. are they on same planet.

Yeah wait while I shed a great many years for these struggling solid upper middle class whingers. A $30,000 pay cut for me would have me in negative income. Being chronically ill and on the DSP, I can only dream of being able to afford to make the 'sacrifices' they have. auspol

can’t wait for this love affair this country has with private schools to die

3 years of private schooling destroyed my education, massive failure. I was expelled in the finish and did my last 2 years in the public system and passed all subjects, but that was over 50 years ago.

Thats personal choice

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂

Whinging elite

Underwhelmed. I learnt to read early because I had a passion for my football team - Footscray FC. Mum bought me books incl ref books, subscribed to a mag called 'Look and Learn.' for me. I went to one of the toughest Vic state schools -Totty Tech. Spend time with kid, cheaper.

Hard to care.

If I had a spare $30000, I would send kids to perfectly good State school, have brilliant holidays and travel, spend spare time enjoying life with them and invest in them not some private business

Oh good another private school brat with entitlement issues.

Welcome to Wankersville

Why is it that suddenly in Year 5 lots of wealthy parents are unhappy with the local Public school? Choice not a sacrifice.

I went on a Captain cook circumnavigation tour and it was like a $50 million dollar pay cut - 'PMliar' auspol LiberalAus corrupt

auspol Serious guy do a real story this couple well let people decide

How are people used in these stories selected? serious question! are they mates, are they put forward by a political party, do they offer themselves?

I'm going to say this once: 'diddums'. The child will have their growth stunted in either environment.

No it wasn’t

The State system would stop the drain to the private sector if it had the guts to expel bullies and all those kids whose obnoxious attitudes & behaviours in class sabotage the learning opportunities & work environment of their peers & teachers. Educators are NOT social workers

Does he have a GoFundMe? Sounds like they’re really doing it tough!

I'm retired. In Sept/Oct, when the markets crashed for a few days, my super fund lost $30,000 of my hard-earned. About 9 months'worth of my retirement income. What was the point you're trying to make?

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what school you go to. If the child doesn’t study or isnt keen and motivated to learn or not self motivated to be curious and continue to learn outside school hours then no end of ‘sacrifice’ or ‘taking a wage cut’ will help.

An early candidate for the most ridiculous story of 2019.

🤦🏼‍♀️

Stupid fucks, Srlsy, what is wrong with some people? Longitudinal studies have proven time and time again, it makes absolutely no difference to the child’s future (earnings, like that’s a measure of success)

Well, now he’ll be rubbing shoulders with the kids of well heeled Labor politicians. I think the term is progressive Left urban elites or bourgeois socialists!

davidbewart

Like to know exactly what they weren’t happy about? Very common to move kids from public to private at that year level! Making those ‘old school’ contacts.

Choosing to pay for a good or service isn’t a “sacrifice” and it damn sure isn’t a “pay cut”. Cry me a fucking river.

My heart bleeds... they live in Clovelly where a house will set you back $3.5M at least!! Give me a break!!

Public school is a right; private school is a choice. Many cannot afford the choice. Campaign for better public schools.

Money wasted in many cases unless very bright and above average.

Well if I took a thirty grand salary cut I would be into negative territory. Come over here to work under NDIS funding rules for support workers you poor little Silvertails

However whoever wrote the headline needs to learn what a sacrifice is. Choosing to spend that amount of money is NOT a sacrifice.

Well maybe try a different school or cheaper private school?

I Winter every year in St Moritz. It’s basically the same as taking a $100k paycut...

He's a lucky little Vegemite isn't he. Slot of people don't even earn $30k a year

Well that was silly

This is a New Idea story bencubby - after yesterdays front page and this story its time the SMH lift its game

& all the evidence is public school kids who learn to think for themselves instead of Molly coddled all way to hsc a actually perform better at uni. Privatee school kids clueless abt self motivation

private schooling has nothing to do with education - it all about networking - what a wank

Boo Hoo This story is not worthy of the SMH

Seriously this is their lifestyle choice. So stop complaining about it. That said, if our governments (both State and Federal levels) are willing to invest more resources into public education, it would not trigger this issue. auspol

Turn all private schools into public schools. I’m afraid mr I have absolutely no sympathy for you at all! Send the little possum to a public school where he’ll learn about life in the real world!

If I didn’t want to pay $30,000 for my child’s education, I would simply not do that.

By this logic I take a 95% pay cut every year to pay for things like rent and food. Oh wait, unlike private school those aren't optional...

RobSturrock the struggle is real for Clovelly based senior managers of “rich and relevant” digital content factories.

Your choice to put your child into private school.

ban all private schools

auspol sorry but boo hoo, most parents couldn't afford !Focus shld B improving public education & instead of govt make decisions 4 teachers shld start listening to them! If had they wouldn't have had fiasco of the lap top roll out & would have had more computer labs instead.

The pay cut is actually larger than $30,000 as he fails to factor in the pre-tax cost, which will be a substantially higher sum. IncomeTaxMatters

If you had a half a dozen you would happily homeschool.

Net, but if you keep supporting underfunding in the public sector you get what you deserve.

Enough! What multicultural Australians want to really know is which migrant or migrant descent ethnic & religious community of Australians they are from? They are not easily identifiable as being European-Anglos,African-Sudanese, Middle Eastern, Asian-Chinese or even Asian-Indian!

Private schooling is marginally better quality than public, but is so stupidly overpriced it's never good value for money - even with large subsidising of private schools by the Australian taxpayers who will never afford it🙄

😭

One way to help your child's teacher; ask whether they have job security, or whether they are one of around 10,000 teachers faced with chronic job/income insecurity as a temp. Hired and fired at the whim of schools without any right to fair treatment. What's best for your child?

Battlers doin it tough!

your choice..

Do schools expect parents to be more tech-savvy than they really are?Invariably, I see these parents several months into the school year, during which time their child has been using the device with little or no protection. It's 2019, and if you have kids about to start kindy, or even try 7, you have had a certain level of technical knowledge by this point. Seriously, if you can't figure it out or don't know who to ask? That's a worry I remember when we had proper teachers who didn’t expect parents to do their job for them When you change the way people learn then they don’t know the new methods, maths a perfect example.
