Two Ontario Tech University researchers are leading a study to improve the reliability of bloodstain analyses at crime scenes.
However, current methods used to interpret evidence at crime scenes have been criticized globally for subjectivity and lack of scientific rigour. “Sometimes in really tricky cases, it might be really hard to classify some types of blood stain patterns,” explained Stotesbury. “It can make the interpretation of the blood stains really difficult.”Their group will try to expand their data sets to contain realistic environments, like the Canadian climate, exploring how they form in extreme cold and snow and ice conditions.
