How about rectifying 2 decades of below inflation pay rises?

I haven't read it because I can't be bothered as it's not relevant to N.I. but I imagine they are referring to a bonus or 'golden handshake'. I got a grand when I started teaching in London and I was offered it again to return after moving back home.

If this money is available then how about using it to increase school budgets so that there is actually enough money for teacher to spend on essential resources. Existing teachers might be less likely to leave if that was the case!

It seems logical to pay teachers to teach. It also seems that money isn’t the problem here as such, so better to find out why teachers are leaving and tackle the problem.

Used to be called salary - over last 8 years has been cut in real terms. Pay an issue, but not as large as workload. If educationgovuk hadn't spent 30 years undermining teachers and 'playing' with pupil's education for party political purposes may be we wouldn't have a crisis

Don’t they get paid to teach?

Teachers shouldn't have to teach crappy kids after a certain age. School should only be compulsory till age 10 after which only the best 20% should be encouraged to stay. I think most teachers would be happier then.

How about offering this to social workers with an average working life of 7 years and 60% of front line positions ever filled?

How about better working conditions, more autonomy, respect from politicians, media and parents, and leadership that actually care about kids not grades? Just a thought

Why dont the just get paid more?

Why not. But put the inset training in their holidays.

As in... wages?

Good teachers are a fundamental of modern civilization. You cannot for one second allow teachers to be underpaid or over worked. Your children will suffer and then you as a parent and then society. Please pay them and treasure them.

Teachers, police workforce, doctors,nurses... those all professions are all in shortage now... And it looks they all affected by the same pattern of problems - low paid, too stressful, loaded with unnecessary bureaucracy

I'm no super brain, but they are lacking in areas such physics and chemistry ?. Why is that then ? I don't think its down to money, more to do with lacking people with the ability .

How desperate is this?

they screw up the system and now! they want to do something about it. more tory incompetence, they haven't one policy they can claim was or is a success-they've failed every single day they've held office-in the name of god GO!!

Fails to address experienced teacher who are also leaving in droves, fails to address the mental health and well-being of ALL teachers, fails to address the culture of fear

What like ‘wages’, what a great idea

Don’t teachers get paid for only 26.25 hrs pw? Most start at 7.30am preparing lessons, work through breaks, leave at 5pm, mark books for 2hrs each evening,do lesson plans every Sunday for about 25 lessons & use holidays to write up pupil reports,SEN plans, lead subject reports etc

There'll be t's and c's. Like if you leave within 2 yrs after getting the bonus you'll have to pay it back, so it's basically a cheap trap.

Who want to teach their brats in public schools. They all tend to behave like thugs or gangster, Work in crap environment

Why not detentions?

No doubt a claim featuring the meaningless phrase, 'a better work-life balance', will do wonders to retain staff who must endure disruptive pupils, unsupportive parents, inadequate resources, ineffective school management, etc., etc.

Were they given stones before? Lol

Über Anreize werden auch wir sprechen müssen in einzelnen Regionen. Allerdings verdienen deutsche Lehrkräfte um Längen besser.

Confused, most schools are struggling for cash and are having to make teachers redundant

Reduced stress levels would do more.

Headline should read : Teachers to be offered cash to stay in school in England ThatsDevolved SayEngland

What about the emergency services! they’re overlooked as usual violent crime is up wheres their help and incentive crazy! Teachers DO deserve better pay the only ones to get one though will be the MPs AGAIN above the rate of inflation they always find the money for themselves!

You mean like a ‘pay check’?

What like a salary?

How about just allow them to teach and get them an admin assistant to do the paperwork

Need to attract teachers with life experience, rather than keeping graduates who know nothing else. And teachers do get a salary, which isn’t bad considering they get half the year off.

Nothing will work until people see teachers in public and government schools as professionals and treated in a totally professional way - by students, parents, administrators and policymakers.

Doctors, teachers, police, they were all once pillars of society. I’ll bet they don’t feel like that now. Because they have been FUCKED! Why should a manager in a store earn more than a teacher?

Anything to avoid paying them a decent wage and/or reducing work load 👌 Teaching ceased being a sustainable profession years ago, and is worsening 📉

Good morning class, today’s lesson: This is how wages work☝️

Isn't it customary in the UK to pay teachers ? Like a salary ? If not, i'm sure introducing that should be able to tackle at least part of the problem.

Most of us would rather fewer contact hours and reduction in non-teaching related admin than more money TBH.

Yep cash is going make them stay. If they stay for cash then they are not in it for the teaching.

Why is that every profession packed full of women is always asking for endless cash and lighter work loads?!?

All this will do is alter the timing of a teacher's departure. It will do nothing to stem the flow.

People don't become teachers for the money...They become teachers because they enjoy educating people. The government have turned teaching into a Pressurised Cooker...THAT IS WHY PEOPLE ARE LEAVING TEACHING...AND OTHERS NOT BECOMING TEACHERS.

FGS!! Is there anyone that isn't aware of the great problems under this Government?

Throw cash at the problem ...so they not teach because they get fulfillment to educate people ..that's what teachers used to say ..gone are them days lol

Why is this news ? Isn’t that how every job works ?

While education is being run like a for profit competitive business complete with corporate branding & advertising, that is more concerned with churning out obedient drones rather than rounded individuals capable of critical thinking & independent thought NOTHING will change.

Ladies : I have the blissful life for you , I can show the miracles also if you're willing. So support me and discuss about my recent belief. It's wonderful and lifeful.

errr Isn't that called a salary?...

That’s a thing called a S A L A RY

What, they don't get paid already?

My dad used to do this for me 😂
