\u0022Day By Day\u0022 we learn to “love thy neighbour and do unto others as they do unto us.” St. Pius X High School\u0027s performance of Godspell brings heartfelt acting, peppy steps and cast\u002Dcommunity to the stage reminding us that God is always here when we need him most.

Although some vocals occasionally faltered, musical numbers were lively and actors displayed a pleasantly natural rapport. In this candour-riddled performance, every actor utilized facial expressions and distinguished parlance to create a variety of unique and quirky personalities.

Jesus, the central figure, is shown as a compelling and charismatic leader who instills in his followers the importance of mutual love and support. He also challenges them and presents them with harsh truths. The modern costumes, provided by the cast themselves, truly highlighted the juxtaposition between the original Bible and the more recent 2012 rendition. Items such as MTV shirts and chic fur coats transported us to the world of Uzo, Telly, Nick, John, Morgan/George, Lindsay, Anna Maria and Celisse as they navigate popular parables between the brick walls of New York.

Dylan Vinette’s performance as Jesus was phenomenal, and they brought a calming and comforting presence to the stage. They had a commanding stage presence and effortlessly switched between singing and speaking. Their ability to comfort and connect with other characters was moving and inspiring, adding an extra layer of complexity to their performance.

Keira Lloyd played John the Baptist. Lloyd’s presence on stage felt comforting, and her delivery of the character’s lines was spot-on. She brought a sense of warmth and compassion to her role that was truly impressive.All good gifts are around us and the famous musical Godspell is no exception. The talented students of St. Pius X High School put on a great show with their spirited production of Godspell.

Jesus played by Dylan Vinetter during St. Pius X High School’s Cappies production Godspell, on April 12, 2023, in Ottawa, ON.Crizel Abulencia as Uzo was consistently endearing. Abulencia’s emotions stood out in “By My Side”. Abulencia’s melodic tone and earnest gestures brought Uzo to life. She always spoke up when it was her time and when she did, she commanded the stage.
