A 14-year-old boy who allegedly punched his teen wrestling opponent in the face after their match at Oak Park-River Forest High School has been issued a local citation, according to a joint news release from the village of Oak Park and the police department.
When officers arrived at the school, the parents of another 14-year-old boy reported that her son had been struck in the face, without provocation, after a match with his opponent – the 14 year old now cited.“The victim, who had no prior relationship to the offender, sustained a bloody nose and declined additional medical response. Officers were also shown a video of the match and its conclusion, confirming the events as stated by the complainants,” according to the news release.
The boy told police he “struck his opponent because he was angry that he had lost the match,” the release states. Neither the teen who got punched nor the one who punched him live in Oak Park or attend OPRFHS, with both of them there specifically for the wrestling tournament, officials said in the release.
