Carl Anthony Thompson, 26, was arrested on a charge of improper relationship between educator and student, a second-degree felony, and a charge of tampering with a witness, a third-degree felony, according to San Marcos police. Thompson taught and coached football at San Marcos High School, according to a July 2020 Facebook post from the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District. Johnson no longer works for the district, spokesman Andrew Fernandez said.School district officials initiated an investigation after learning of a “code of conduct violation with an 18-year-old student,” according to a news release.
San Marcos police obtained evidence of messages between Thompson and the student starting in November and of “inappropriate physical contact on two occasions” in January, according to police. Texas law prohibits any sexual relationship between a teacher and student, regardless of the student’s age.
