Lawmakers in Tennessee have awarded final passage to a proposal that, if enacted, would further protect gun and ammunition dealers, manufacturers and sellers against lawsuits.

The civil liabilities bill passed just ahead of a protest in which people formed a human chain through Nashville to the Capitol in support of gun control measures.

Demonstrators hold hands to form a "human chain" to support gun control legislation Tuesday in Nashville. The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Joey Hensley from Hohenwald, said his legislation doesn’t prevent any other proposal from passing. The bill passed the House ahead of the March 27 shooting at The Covenant School.

Three Republicans voted against the legislation, including Sen. Art Swann of Maryville, who said “gun-makers have encouraged the environment we’ve got right now.”The firearm industry remains largely shielded from liability under federal law. Seventeen states do not have special immunity for the gun industry, and Tennessee is already not among them, according to Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun control advocacy group.

Oh Lawdy, protect those merchants of death at all costs!

As it should be. 🤷🏻‍♂️ otherwise let's start with Big Pharma, then automobiles.

If you run over a crowd in a truck, the truck manufacturer shouldn't be responsible. The left is seriously demented.

That helps the safety of the people?

Good - we should protect businesses that enable the exercising of a core constitutional right from frivolous lawsuits filed by leftist extremists.

No lawsuits should be filed against manufacturers of legal products in proper working order

It's all about priorities 🤮🤬

Guns are more important than school kids. The 2nd Amendment requires blood sacrifice.

Kill Away Day in Tennessee. You don't get to mourn and grieve mass murders there. They are written into law.

If only kids had more money to donate.

Tennessee.. why....?

Awesome about time.

AND they continue to elect the gop 🤷‍♂️

I think it's called 2A. Society doesn't get to demand laws to make them feel better.

Of course they will.

this is what the right wants. they’ll try to scare and distract you with drag queen story time and the fact that trans people exist… but the thing actually making this country less safe for us and our kids is the GOP and their inextricable link to guns and the gun lobby.

Thank the lord

Again, not the children but the guns.

What bs. TennesseeGOP

TNGOP: Our kids are being slaughtered so let's protect the companies that sell the weapons and provoke the people who killed them. Another example of GOP's profound disregard for life.

But but ……that LAW PRoTECTS sales to Tranfender Gun Shooters . The ones you feared so much you expelled your own tenn lawmakers ?

Wtf Tennessee you bassakward bunch of knuckle draggers.

vote them out

Tennessee moves to shield gun firms after school shootingIn the wake of a deadly school shooting last month, Republican lawmakers in Tennessee are sending to Republican Gov. Bill Lee a proposal that further protects gun and ammunition dealers, manufacturers and sellers against lawsuits. The Senate's passage comes amid pushback from Democrats saying lawmakers are trying to shield gun companies just weeks following the Nashville school shooting that killed six people, including three 9-year-olds. The final vote came as Lee’s administration was still trying to drum up enough support among lawmakers in his party to pass legislation to keep firearms away from people who could harm themselves or others. Prioritizing protecting gun manufactures instead of kids at this point just feels on brand in that state Make the loons move. Yeah, that tracks. Working quickly where it really matters...
