“She’s very much a part of the target market of this bakery,” Alison says of her teen daughter.

Sugar and Sage Bakery, which is expected to open in late April 2023 in University Park, will have a mix of sweet and savory items. Its 16-year-old co-owner Ashley Sage Weinstein especially loves pastry chef Jill Bates' chocolate chip cookie. The mother-daughter duo then teamed up with Bates, who coordinated on some of the new Dallas bakery’s recipes with famed pastry chef Michael Laiskonis, formerly of Le Bernardin.
