Breaking: Ford government assuming greater control over school boards

Legislation tabled Monday by Education Minister Stephen Lecce would impose new standards of training for directors of education and senior staff, as well as how their job performance is measured, giving trustees a say as well as an opportunity for the Ministry of Education to weigh in.“Boards need to refocus on what matters, which is student achievement.”

The legislation would also give the government a say in priorities in student achievement, especially in the basics of reading, writing and math, and ensure all 72 publicly funded boards provide information on that progress to parents in a transparent and timely manner, as well as update teacher training at universities.

On the trustee side, the bill would ensure boards are using integrity commissioners to deal with disputes between elected officials in a bid to keep their focus on students. The bill is also intended, in part, to address the varying academic performance among boards and would give the province a say in “setting priorities for student achievement” as well as usher in “more consistent information and approaches to student learning.”

Let’s start with no Drag Queen story times

Send him back to school!

More land to give to his developer masters.

Good. School boards just push paper and keep money from getting to the classroom.

Cause they've done such a stellar job managing the education file?

We have to get rid of ford the conservative

Why aren't we looking at the best school systems in the world that are successful and try to replicate what they are doing?

cognitive dissonance got people hating on teachers more than the government...

Wait for the book banning.

Hopefully, they will put and end to the push for pronouns and transgenderism in schools.

There’s a lot of property that our schools sit on. So Ford’s developer friends must want to build condos on this land.

He’s so slimy, I can’t wait for him to become irrelevant and disappear into the night

Good maybe now they can focus on educate the kids without that stupid trans agenda;leave the clowns for the circus and for the likes of Trudeau 🤓

STOP criminalizing and discriminating Minor-Attracted Person who are just part of LGTBQ community. One should not be judged against by his/her sexual orientation, either regarding gender or age.

Excellent news They've become too woke ....too NDP .... Bad combination

About time! Next start burning books!

Sounds like more fodder for the opposition.

They want to control everything so they can burn everything down. There will be nothing left.

Translation: Build fewer public schools = charter and fee paying options

It’s about time. The province must step in when school boards like Halton actually defend teachers subjecting students to their fetish on the grounds of “gender identity.” Ottawa-Carleton school board is another mess. The priority needs to be put back on student achievement

Should have also eliminated school boards.

So basically this gov is taking more direct control of public education and is using private/parent orgs and not educators to push the Con privatization agenda of public education and to create labour for their corporate donors…

It's all about control with Dougie. Only the courts and a future provincial election can stop him! DisasterDoug

Good. At least they'll put students first.

I presume that this is to make public schools worse in order to promote some conservative effort to introduce profit-taking into the education system.

Good. Time to abolish them all.

Good

Great news everyone!

Never do something you dont want your opposition to do...

Where is our $1 raise? CUPEOntario

Excellent

Of course they do! It’s all about more control with them.

'Learning loss/catch-up' come directly from Lecce's policies. Online was LIMITED ON PURPOSE to distance, suspensions, illness, etc due to poor results. He bypassed curriculum experts & imposed mandatory online courses then extended it to all 2M students..confirming poor results.

Of course they are. They must destroy everything in their wake

And Doug didn’t even finish high school.

That’s sounds good , less drag shows more math.

Boards and trustees are suppose to be autonomous. Ford is once again undermining public education.

A dropout Premier wants more control of schools. Nice.

Bye bye trustees.

School boards are supposed to be independent. Can someone please ask Ford if autocracy is in his hidden mandate letters?

They've been at the helm for 5 years and it's been all equity, identity, anti-colonial, anti-oppressive hooey. Hopefully they'll return the focus to learning.

Bodes badly

Boards need to be cleansed of the far-left ideologues that are too intent on pushing DIE/CRT/Human Rights instead of focusing on ways to achieve high academic/behavioural standards amongst students

It’s a good thing. There’s so much waste within each school board. I come from a background in education, I know.

Ford and Leech have already failed education.

About time

alexbozikovic I think you’ll find this bit annoying:
