BREAKING: FG approves use of groundbreaking Oxford malaria vaccine | TheCable

The federal government has granted provisional approval for the R21/Matrix malaria vaccine developed by scientists at Oxford University.

The development comes days after Ghana became the first country to approve the vaccine — which is said to be 80 percent effective.“The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control in exercising its mandate as stipulated by its enabling law, NAFDAC Act CapN1, LFN 2004 is granting registration approval for R21 malaria vaccine,” Adeyeye said at the press briefing.

“Overall, the R21 malaria vaccine dossier complied substantially with best international standards with which the dossier was benched-marked as mentioned above. The joint review committee concluded that the data on the R21 malaria vaccine were robust and met criteria for efficacy, safety, and quality,” she said.

“A provisional approval of the R21 malaria vaccine was recommended and this shall be done in line with the WHO’s malaria vaccine implementation guideline.“While granting the approval, the agency has also communicated the need for expansion of the clinical trial conducted to include a phase 4 clinical trial/pharmacovigilance study to be carried out in Nigeria.

Africans should get ready for new generational diseases.

For 5 months to 36 months babies, only. Wahala.

Excellent 👏

Where is the safety study documents on this ? The government like all the rest are about looting in conjunction with the pharmaceutical companies ; we are yet to see any safety study for any vaccine yet it's being pushed into the society for use

So instead of eradicating the mosquito that causes malaria like was done in Europe and America.. we'd rather use our citizens as test subjects for a vaccines they enriches the west 😖

What breaks my heart about this news is the vaccine was not made by Africans who’re the worst affected. It’d have been a huge win for us but it’s still a good news because it’ll save lives. Africans must be intentional about solving their problems.

Shouldn't I be the first?

I need one right now

I want 🥹

Greatest news.
