Frankford High School to be closed for the rest of the school year due to damaged asbestos

that the building would be closed after spring break.Mitchell Elementary school was also shut down for the rest of the year. That decision was made last week.

Students from Building 21 were relocated to Strawberry Mansion High School several weeks ago. Simon Gratz High School and Prep Middle School shut down next, but they have since reopened.

Philadelphias politicians are all 🤡🤡🤡

If only some of our taxes went to help us. Stop giving all our money to the wealthy and big corporations!

You should also check many of the Catholic and older Public schools

How does no one commenting here understand that asbestos can be found in almost all Philadelphia schools? What has been deemed acceptable is to remediate exposure, basically sealing it off so no dust is emitted. This was not a discovery of asbestos as if no one knew it was there.

Philly School District is criminally inept. Shut the entire thing down.

I see comments on here like why wasn't the school checked .......... I think they should go thru records of the last 30 years to see how many times these schools were checked and who checked them ........... I have no doubt that someone in the Philly Schools Offices got a decent…

Well maybe the libraries and Rec. Centers can open now. How long this Asbestos issue been plaguing philly schools ? PHLCouncil still can rectify the problem. Incompetence.

How in the world does this school STILL have an asbestos problem?

I went to Carnell Elementary, Fels Junior High and Northeast High in the 50’s and 60’s. I wondered how much asbestos I absorbed. Carnell was a dump when I went though I really liked the Shepards pie they served for lunch.

We need new schools, this school is old and continues to lose students due to economical challenges in the surrounding communities.. if number is correct it is 20% of what it used to be.. less funding less resources, less caring

This IS so ridiculous. It’s in the middle of the School year. And their just finding this now! Unbelievable! Whoever is in charge of checking the Schools for Asbestos IS doing a lousy job. And SHOULD be FIRED IMMEDIATELY. So from September these Students have been breathing this

Still 2 months left of school and going to virtual learning? There’s no city properties where these kids could finish out the rest of the year. They just got back after over 2 years? These kids are set up to fail.

Why have ALL Philly schools not be tested for asbestos? This is almost criminal. They’re our teachers & our kids.

Why wasn’t this checked during the COVID19 shutdown?

Philadelphia has schools created in the early 1900s for white kids only still used in 2023 These things gotta be rebuilt anew
