A student at DeWitt Perry Middle School in Carrollton was revived Tuesday, the second-known overdose on a Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD campus in recent weeks.

Other students who were in the classroom received support from district crisis counselors, the message said. Carrollton police said the incident is under investigation, and it is unknown if the student overdosed on opioids.

“The national opioid crisis is affecting all cities in Texas, but the quick reaction and preparedness of the school district staff saved this student’s life,” police said in an email.This is the second known overdose on a Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD campus in recent weeks. Fentanyl is a highly potent synthetic opiate; an amount the size of the tip of a sharpened pencil can be lethal.At least three students in the district died and six others were hospitalized from fentanyl-laced pills in recent months, according to a federal criminal complaint against the alleged dealers.

Federal authorities linked the illicit drugs back to a house just blocks from a high school. Juvenile dealers as young as 14 would pick up drugs before selling them to their peers, according to court documents.
