Hoboken woman who posed as CPA to steal $1.5 million from nonprofits, schools pleads guilty

A Hoboken woman who posed as a certified public accountant to scam more than 100 victims — mostly nonprofits, private schools and religious institutions across New Jersey — out of more than $1.5 million pleaded guilty Thursday, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced. Yezenia Castillo, 46, admitted to one count each of wire fraud and tax evasion before U.S District Judge Susan D. Wigenton in federal court in Newark.

Among her victims was a Jersey City nonprofit elementary and intermediate school that hired her company, YCPC, to provide tax accounting and tax preparation services between 2016 and 2019.
