As a parent, I know how disruptive it is when teachers adopt a casual attitude to attendance.

Is it not the parents prerogative (and, of course, duty) to educate their children as they see fit? Neither the school nor, by extension in some cases, the State, therefore, are the primary source of such. The best and most enduring lessons are not learned in the classroom.
