The embattled president of Memorial University, Vianne Timmons, is stepping down.

The departure is effective today, with her appointment ending on a “without cause” basis, as stated In a letter to the President’s Advisory Committee from MUN’s Board of Regents. Meanwhile, Neil Bose has been appointed President and Vice-Chancellor pro tempore for a two-year term or until a new president is recruited.Timmons has been under intense scrutiny over claims of Indigenous heritage, having recently accepted an Indspire Award, described as “the highest honour the Indigenous community bestows upon its own people.”Timmons had taken a six-week paid leave of absence in mid-March, with MUN’s Board of Regents announcing a roundtable of Indigenous leaders in response.

She has also come under fire recently for personal spending allotted in her contract, as well as treatment of vocal critics of her administration.

Sad really

'Stepping down'

She was removed. That is different than stepping down. If she cared at all about MUN she would have actually stepped down in December not hung on damaging the university reputation until she had to be removed aka terminated.

Proper thing. There’s something mentally wrong with these liberals and what they think they’re entitled to by always fleecing the taxpayers.

Don’t let the door kick you in the a$$ on your way out (with almost a $million in severance, ffs!)

Wrong headline.

That’s what she gets for lying

Continue the investigation to reveal the truth Plse.

Where does the govt find these narsascists

I'd say.

Is this the same person who awhile back was taking a two month (paid) leave of absence?

Can Stingray get any news headline correct? JMJ….your lack of journalistic talent knows no bounds.

To quote the great Steve Miller”Go on take the money and run”!

MUN’s Bd of Regence had one job. They did it badly. 6th generation Benoit would not have her family living on the Conne River Reserve! Furthermore it was a “Benoit” that lied about our Chief, my great grandfather, that cause him to leave his home for NS, never to return again!

Lying about Indigenous heritage. Is that the reason? Would make sense if she beat out another candidate based on having Indigenous heritage when the university was going through the selection process.

The Unions need to hire the person who wrote the severance packages...

Don’t let the door hit ya in da arse on the way out!!!

Gets fired and a million dollars. Should be no money at all . She lied to get the job in the first place.

I'd step down too for that type of severance package.

VOCM kicking in once again with the inaccurate reporting...its like ya had one job!

She was removed from her position, do better... 'The battle is won when the average citizen regards a corporate journalist exactly as they would a tobacco executive.'

With bonuses

that's what happens when silvern voices tune thy rills ..

Inaccurate.

She was fired. More crap journalism. Learn how to read a press release. Or, just copy and paste as usual. 🙄🙄🙄🙄

What was it The Steve Miller Band said, oh yea “go on, take the money and run”

What a joke. She should have been fired for falsifying her resume.

400k salary is not enough for her….

Timmons is by far the worst President MUN has ever had. Bullied students, grew the sycophantic bureaucracy , ignored the budget disaster, killed collegiality, couldn’t hire or keep Sr Admins, hid from the strike, and ignored collapsing academic standards. Good Riddance!

Haha I'm so glad this liar is gone. They should take back the money paid to her during her leave of absence. In fact her paying it back should 100% be of concern for anyone working or studying at mun. How long until we get video of her fake crying pretending to be a victim?

Is 'stepped down' now code for 'her arse got canned?' Such an embarrassment.

I’m sure her payout will make this departure a little easier for her to take.

Ginormous payout inbound.

She did not step down. 'Dr. Timmons’ appointment is being ended on a without cause basis.'

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!

How’s MUN’s supper hour alumni fundraising calls going these days?

MemorialU keeps the 💩 show rolling ! What an absolute farce that place is, let alone a tax money dump for cheap schooling for a lot of people not from here. Long as she isn’t replaced with a 🤡, this will be a good thing …

A paid step down? 😂🤣😂

Pain in the proverbial ass since she was appointed. Good riddance!

What kind of news outlet is this? She did not step down.

She was fired. There is a big difference than stepping down. Great job, and please when recruiting for the new president, due diligence is a must, unlike the hiring of her.

If she didn’t voluntarily step down, I guess MUN will have to pay out a big settlement to her. More $$$$$ out the window

Shocker Take the money and run

Please amend this headline—she did not step down, she was terminated without cause. This is inaccurate reporting.

I saw this coming since the indigenous issue broke out, stacking on top of the recent MUNFA strike and tuition hike. Wishing her all the best!👌🏾

👏👏👏👏

No she never step down, she was let go fir.. please report it the correct reason

According to CBC's Peter Cowan, she was let go

Ha. Is she still on leave..!?! I think she is, and she's being paid $60k for this time...pay it back girl. Take it out of your 'native status' allowance. Lol

How much she getting paid for this?

We call this the Elizabeth warren effect.

Proper thing to do…between the vaccine mandates and the latest round of BS she doesn’t deserve the job, nor should she be getting a pension
