on shelves while a superintendent reviews them, the Maine School Administrative District board voted on Monday to bypass its own policy and immediately pull the eight titles, theby Chuck Palahniuk, a novel about a sex addict con man;Lucky, a memoir about the author’s experience of being raped while
in college. “This is a safety issue and I have no problem pulling them for now to review them,” board member Lyndsey Atkinson said. Maine typically used to see about one book challenged every year, thereports, but 2022 brought 12 challenges and there were eight in the first two months of 2023 alone.
Good.
They should've been reviewed first. You don't give into hysteria. But the question is after the review, do they allow themselves to feed into the paranoia of a minority of crazed adults...because it's not the kids causing the safety concerns. It's adults.
'Choke' is a seriously fucked up book, it doesn't even belong in COLLEGE libraries. It has basically no redeeming value. WTF is it doing in an elementary school?
Free speech! They should put Hustler on the shelves!
Why do you support children having access to such inappropriate reading materials in public schools?
why was “choke” on the shelf anyway? lol
I love Chuck Palahniuk's stuff but it has no business in a school library.
“This is a safety issue and I have no problem pulling them for now to review them,” you have got to be joking
vlal42 Great! Those are completely inappropriate for a school library.
These are the books you can't read out loud at a school board meeting because they are considered pornographic
banning papers with words on them
