Geauga County Prosecutor James Flaiz, Chester Township Police Chief Craig Young and West Geauga Superintendent Richard Markwardt. Authorities discuss the arrest of a student who brought a gun to West Geauga High School on Monday.CHESTERLAND, Ohio – An 18-year-old student at West Geauga High School planned to “shoot multiple students” when he brought a gun to classes Monday, according to court records.
The high school went into lockdown about 9:30 a.m. Monday after a 17-year-old student found a bullet in the men’s restroom and told a staff member. The school did not immediately go into lockdown after the bullet was found, a move to prevent students from panicking, Young said. After Morrissette was searched in the school, he was transported to the Chester Township Police Department, where he was interviewed by detectives, Young said.
Superintendent Richard Markwardt said Morrissette did not have a history of discipline problems. It is unclear why a student from Lyndhurst would attend the West Geauga district.
